Knife Rack - Spalted Beech
Knife Rack - Spalted Beech
Hand made in our wood workshop by Danny, using the beautiful offcuts of our own, home milled local timber.
Wall mounted (holes pre-drilled, screws supplied). A simple but brilliant design, made from a single piece of wood with a 3mm slot cut through the block into which you can slide any size and shape of knife.
Made of beech.
Beech often referred to as “the Queen of the forest” is a magnificent tree that can grow to a huge size, I personally call it “the elephant tree”.
This particular tree i found in a neighbours wood land it had been lying dead for up to ten years. It had the most beautiful Spalting of any beech tree i have had the pleasure of cutting.
Spalting happens most commonly once a tree has died. different fungi will begin colonise the timber they will erect defences between one type and another creating the black lines seen in the Timber. Once the timber is dry the fungus can no longer survive in the wood, making it stable and food safe.
Dimensions: 390mm long x 50mm high x 28mm deep. Slot length 300mm
